 Tom Ferguson, CHMM, DGSA, Technical Consultant and Instructor
Tom has worked for over 14 years in the dangerous goods transportation industry, most recently serving for 7 years as the Manager, DG Management for Delta Airlines. In this position he also served on the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Panel and the Chairman of the Council on Safe Transportation of Hazardous Articles (COSTHA) Air Carrier Committee, the Air Transport Association (ATA) Hazardous Materials Committee and served on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) delegation. Additionally, Tom leads the COSTHA delegation to the United Nations Sub Committee on the Transport of Dangerous Goods. Mr. Ferguson has earned his Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager designations (CHMM). He serves on two Cooperative Panels regarding ongoing transportation projects with the National Academies Transportation Research Board. Tom has presented on transportation subjects at IATA Dangerous Goods By Air conferences, the Association of Hazardous Materials Professionals (formerly Academy of Hazardous Materials Managers) Annual Meetings, and MedTrade. As an instructor, he has facilitated both initial and recurrent courses in 49 CFR, IMDG, and IATA/ICAO domestically and internationally. During his career, Tom has conducted Dangerous Goods and Environmental audits for chemical, service, automotive, and retail industries, as well as transportation carriers. Tom received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Geology from Georgia State University, and a Master of Science Degree in Coastal and Hydrogeology from the University of South Florida. He actively participates on several committees of the National Academy of Sciences Transportation Research Board.
