John V. Currie, Principal

John V. Currie is internationally recognized as a leader in the HazMat companies compliance industry. His extensive background includes duties as:

• Supervisor & Trainer for the NYS Police Hazardous Materials Enforcement Unit
• Director of Safety for the American Trucking Associations
• Corporate Manager of Hazardous Materials Transportation for Digital Equipment Corporation

While working with Digital Equipment Corporation, Mr. Currie was responsible for global compliance and was charged with developing and implementing a worldwide training and compliance program for the computer manufacturer. He is highly acclaimed for his training skills and ability to captivate and motivate his students through utilization of unique techniques and materials.

His ability to simplify regulatory complexity and enhance student comprehension and retention through procedural course construction has been proven at industry sponsored seminars and within the graduate and undergraduate degree programs of several colleges and universities.

In addition, as president of Currie Associates, Inc., John Currie has provided customized training courses on the new requirements to industry clients currently engaged in intermodal, and international transportation and has presented programs detailing the changes to several public forums and conferences. Mr. Currie has provided regulatory training for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) as part of its TRAINMAR Inter-Regional Programme.

Mr. Currie authored the popular Driver's Guide to Hazmat for the American Trucking Associations, currently in its 9th printing with over 400,000 copies being utilized throughout the trucking industry. He has also authored several technical publications on the safe transportation of hazardous materials including application of the latest United Nations recommendations. The successful compliance series is currently being used by thousands of hazardous material transporters and shippers throughout the industry.

Working in conjunction with the Vessel Operators Hazardous Materials Association, Mr. Currie developed the IMDG Training Program currently being used by the major ship lines of the world and quickly becoming the training standard for use of the IMDG Code. This program is also being utilized by the US Coast Guard, the DOT Transportation Safety Institute, the Federal Railroad Administration and the Canadian Coast Guard, as well as marine training institutes in Korea and Germany.
