Currie Associates, Inc. was founded in 1990 by husband and wife duo John (Jack) and Lara Currie. Their visionary leadership paved the way for their company’s continued success. After 30 years, the couple stepped back from the frontline to allow their established, loyal employees to take the reins. Jack and Lara retired in late 2020, providing them more time to spend with their family, friends, outdoor sports, and horses.
Knowledge comes from experience, and neither were lacking with this dynamic couple. Jack’s career in the transportation safety field includes Supervisor of the New York State Police Hazardous Materials Response and Enforcement Unit, Safety Director for the American Trucking Associations, and Corporate Manager of Hazmat for Digital Equipment Corporation. He worked with legislative and regulatory staff at the state, federal, and international levels to draft, introduce, support, and implement reasonable and prudent controls within the transportation industry. He developed and presented written and oral testimony on hazardous materials and transportation safety in both Houses of the US Congress. He wrote several books and model training programs on the guiding principles of hazardous materials transportation and participated in the International Maritime Organization Dangerous Goods Subcommittee, the United Nations Sub Committee of Experts on the Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and on several committees of the National Academy of Sciences Transportation Research Board.
Lara is a veteran of both the trade association management business and the dangerous goods transportation industry. In her career, she assisted industry and trade associations with managing the development and implementation of compliance and training programs, new products, marketing and membership programs, domestic and international meetings and seminars, and communication with regulatory and legislative bodies. She served as the administrator for the Council on Safe Transportation of Hazardous Articles (COSTHA) and the International Vessel Operators Dangerous Goods Association, Inc. (IVODGA). Formerly she served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Warren County NY Board of REALTORS, the Director of Marketing for the American Trucking Associations and the Director of Communications for the Arlington Virginia Chamber of Commerce. During her career, Lara was listed in Outstanding Young Women in America, Who’s Who Advertising, Who’s Who of American Women, and Who’s Who Emerging Young Leaders.
